You’re naturally creative, you have many bright ideas and there have been periods in your life where you have explored your creativity, albeit for a short amount of time. Other pressures such as work, family, daily commute and general ‘life’ responsibilities mean that creativity has taken a back-foot – for now anyway! You often day dream about an alternative career – museum curator, film director, writer, dancer, painter, interior designer.. the list goes on… and you’re just waiting for the right opportunity to express these longings that you think about sometimes. All is not lost as a frustrated artist, you already are a creative person, and when opportunity doesn’t knock, you’ll build a door! A creative door, with beautiful engravings, an ornate door handle, and colour coordinated paint with the rest of the room! Day dreaming about what’s possible is a classic trait of an artist, in any medium, shape or form, and dare to dream big! With online self-made artists able to start their own social media page, video channel and blog, you’ll find your audience in no time! Art classes are springing up everywhere, and when the moment’s right, you’ll be there! Maybe it’s just a conversation, an advert pinned to a cafe noticeboard, or a social media post away! Creating is the name, and selling is the game! Etsy is your spiritual home online, and you know more about sales and marketing than someone with a sales and marketing degree. You’re very good friends with the staff at the local post office, and bubble wrap has it’s own currency in your home when it’s time to mail out customer orders. The way to your heart is a nice email, a smiley face emoji and the best of all … 5 out of 5 stars customer review! You send everything with love, and give people at least 5 freebies per item, including a badge, a sticker, dried flowers, a crystal and a key ring with every order.
It doesn’t matter if it’s croched, painted, hand-curated or stitched, your shop covers all bases, for all things boho, colourful, unique, stylish and fun! You have a loyal following, some of them that you’ve found yourself by handing out business cards at your local craft fayres. And you know how powerful word of mouth truly is!
You do a little happy dance everytime make you a new sale online! And every sale means the absolute world! You feel empowered by the freedom to sell what you’ve made, and it means a lot to be able to share what you love with others.
You do occasionally find yourself getting frustrated with the algorithm online, and wish your business had more exposure. On the flipside, around Christmas, you wonder why you don’t have an assistant, or a team to help you create more goods! Upscaling your business is something you’ve often thought about, as you’re limited by working from home on your sofa or kitchen table, and you’ve toyed with the idea of getting a premesis many times, but you’re not sure how you’d make it work. What you lack in confidence, you make up for in passion and dedication, and people buy from you because they believe in your product and your ‘hand-made with love’ message! It’s good energy, good vibes, and with a little bit of time… maybe something alot bigger!

‘I’ll follow you on Instagram’ is a love language. Every follower you make means a lot, and every engagement anyone has with your platforms gives you a warm and fuzzy glow inside. Tiktok, Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, Twitter, WordPress, Blogger, YouTube, Soundcloud… this is your bread and butter, your social networks, and your networks for socialising. A blur between business and pleasure, you have so many followers you’ve become a bit on influencer, and if you haven’t taken the plunge and started to promote other people’s products as sponsorship, you may have decided to promote your own products instead. You use your platform wisely, and you always stay on brand if at all possible, plus maybe a few videos of your cat and behind the scenes shots of day trips to make people feel connected.
If you haven’t started a blog, a vlog or a podcast yet, you’ve atleast considered it as something that many people do now. You’re very organised and very quick at producing engaging content that people want to watch/read/listen to. You’re a self-made celebrity, and respected in your field, simply because people can relate to your opinion, and you’ve attracted the right audience, simply by showing-up in an authentic and relatable way. If you blog about food, the chefs take your opinion just as serisouly as those that write for The Telegraph, and if you blog about make-up, your opinion could make or break a products sales in seconds. If you’re a book blogger, you have an unpresidented rating on Goodreads, and your YouTube subscribers would rather watch your video than talk to their family and friends.
You have a strong following, but you’re worried about new algorithms that may reduce the amout of engagement with your own followers, and you wonder what the future is for your business or hobby, as the fickle world of the internet changes it’s goal posts frequently, and social media platforms have historically had a limited lifespan (anyone remember MySpace or Bebo?!). That being said, you plough-on regardless, adding more platforms as you go, in the hope that diversity conquers uncertainty in the digital age.
It has occured to you how to best monetize/use your following in a constructive way, without losing your audience. Upscaling often seems intimidating as you’d need to get an assistant or a team to allow you to grow, and this is new territory. You’re also thinking about the future… will your audience grow with you over time, will your content change as your interests change, and how will you make sure you don’t lose momentum for the content you’re already creating? You’ve thought about offering mentoring and 1:1s to help others who want to have succesful media platforms, and maybe create your own online courses or ebooks, but you don’t know where to start. Whatever the future holds… you’re doing what you love, your creating content that resonates with thousands, and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

Money spent on art and culture is money well spent! And time spent at gigs, at concerts, at performances, at art exhibitions, at museums, at music, dance and literary festivals, at conventions and carnivals is your idea of heaven! If you could spend every day of your life at a festival, you probably would! Art and culture to you is a lifestyle, it’s a community, it’s a way of life.
You often hear about performances and theatre shows word-of-mouth just as often as you might read about it online or in magazines. You’ve subscribed to the newsletter of every local theatre and concert venue within a 20 mile radius, and you follow all your favourite authors, bands, actors, directors and curators on social media. You subscribe to art and culture blogs, and you pay for a subscription to a few niche art and culture magazines. You’ve got a lifetime membership to your local independent cinema, and your patron a of your local arts club, that nearly got shut down due to government cuts to the arts.
All of this arts and culture consumption makes for thirsty work… and you’re a pro at pre-ordering drinks and snacks at the interval of your local playhouse to round off the whole experience. You know every tea room at your local national trust estates, you make new friends often at the bars at gig venues, and you’re happiest in the taxi on the way from watching an obscure modern interpretation of a literary class, sat next to your friends, chatting about the way they did the lighting and the delivery of the some key scenes.
With all this arts and cultural knowledge, you’re happy to keep being in the audience, although you wouldn’t say no to the opportunity to create yourself, it’s just never occured to you to bother! Instead you create moments, you create fun and you create memorable experiences by attending these events, and curating your yearly calendar sometimes months in advance, peppered with plans to see living legends, and also the next best thing.
It has occured to you to create your own cultural guide, a blog, or vlog, or podcast, to channel your love of arts and culture into your own creative output that might help others. You’ve even thought about using your knowledge to curate your own indpendent festival one year, if you can find the right field to pitch up the event! You haven’t pitched the idea to your friends yet, as you’re not sure how to up-scale your idea, or if anyone would be interested, but it’s an idea that you keep daydreaming about from time-to-time, and it’s something that you feel would achievable, as you already know your audience… people like you! In the meantime, you’ll continue to live your best life, taking in arts and culture with friends and family, it’s your happy place, and long may it continue!

You’re living your dream! You’re an artist, a poet, a writer, a dancer, an actor, a musician or performer, and you live, eat and breath doing what you love. It’s not uncommon for you to have paint under your finger nails, biro marks on your kitchen table, props from your latest music video or performance casually strewn around your office/living room, crumpled ideas for a song or dance written on the back of an envelope, and you hum to yourself your vocal warm-up whilst you butter your toast in the morning. Most of your friends are creatives, and if they’re not, then they’re probably your family. Networks are everything, and you try to keep in touch with other artists on the scene, to keep up with what’s happening.
Starving artist syndrome? Not often, but it was hard at the beginning, and work is often hard to come by, especially as opportunities often only last as long as a play, an exhibition, a book, an art show, a film or an album tour. It doesn’t stop you doing what you love. Infact it’s the variety and constant newness of projects and ideas that keep things fresh, and you wouldn’t trade it for the world. It keeps you on your toes, but you know as you keep creating you keep adding to your portfolio, and that’s something that drives you… there’s never enough time, and you’re always busy!
You might rent an art studio, or be an art teacher, you might be part of an acting or dance company, you might work freelance as a music teacher or copywriter. There’s infinite ways to be a creative full time, and you’ve found what works for you, through trial and error. You’re proud of your job, and it’s very fulfilling most of the time, which makes up for the long hours.
Often you wonder if there is a way to generate more income without the stress of worrying about keeping up with day-to-day creativity. When you’re in full creative flow, business strategy and planning fall by the way-side, as you’ve got more important things to worry about. You’ve often thought about getting staff or a manager to help you, and even then, perhaps an assistant. You’re trying to navigate your way through a world reliant on arts grants, charity donations and funding from people that may or may not understand what your doing, and this can get you down occasionally, if you feel your art isn’t being valued or taken seriously, but your love for your art, and your peers help you get through this every time.
You’re proud of what you’ve achieved, and you find it easier to live in the moment sometimes, than to think too much anything other than creating. You may have considered mentoring, or creating online classes or putting on your own workshops or retreats, but you don’t know where to start. You’d like to use your creativity to help others, and you’ve often thought about the finding ways to do this. You’re an unstoppable creative force, and the fire inside you to keep creating will never burn out,in whatever form that takes. You’re powerful, you’re passionate, you’re committed, and this is why you’ve made creativity a full time job.

Making making making! They say the devil makes work for idle hands, and your hands are never been idle! Quite the opposite, half the things in your home have either been upcycled, hand-stitched or personalised, using the latest kit you found from your local craft store or Etsy! Every chest of drawers has different knobs on them, you’ve put glitter on your plain looking photo frames, you’ve made your own pencil pot out of colourful beads and epoxy resin and you’ve labelled the ‘tea’ ‘coffee’ and ‘rice’ jars with a home-made label maker! All your blankets are hand-stitched patchwork or crochet, and when you open every drawer in the house, you’re greeted with an explosion of craft materials that fire out felt trimmings and googley eyes at any unsuspecting visitor! Approach the craft cupboard with extreme caution! If anyone touches your collection of wool or yarn, they will most definitely not hear the end of it!
You’ve got a long list of little craft jobs to do, maybe hemming an old skirt, or taking in a new dress you got from a vintage shop. Maybe you’re making all your christmas cards for your loved ones in July, or maybe you’re knitting your new neice a little blanket on request from your sister in law. You’re busy all the time, and on top of your 9-5 job, your manage to somehow fit everything in. It keeps you sane, having a separate world of creativity and the comforting repetition of knitting and pearling, or cutting anf sticking. You often get requests from friends, but you’d never charge them a bean, because you don’t see why anyone would pay for what you do.
You wish you took some shares out in Hobbycraft a long time ago as you’ve spent so much money there over the years, and have since realised that it’s possible to get a lot of cheaper and more eco recycled material from charity shops, where you often repurpose scarves or even curtains into wearable clothing designs. You could have gone to art school, and you may even have done so, but life has just happened, and you’ve always kept creativity as a recreational perusit and nothing else. You’re famous in your friendship group for your top class hand-made craft products, but to you it’s just part of everyday life, and you find it hard to take much compliments about it. It’s just what you do.
You’ve had a lot of people in your peer groups at work and in your social circles offer to pay you money, and occasionally you’ve thought about putting things on Etsy, or even selling word of mouth on commission, but you don’t know where to start, or when you’d get the time. You’ve even thought about teaching workshops, or putting on videos on YouTube, but again, this isn’t something you would never imagine getting round to doing. However, the more encouragement you get, the more you’re tempted to take it further. Having made an Instragram page of your work as recommended by a friend, you’ve become an instant hit online, and this has further spurred you on to think about taking your craft from a hobby to something bigger. Either way, you adore what you do, it’s healing, it’s calming, it’s relaxing, and you love it for what it is.

If you’re not baking or cooking, or thinking about home interiors, are you really living life properly? Your relationship to your kitchen utensils and new pan set that you got for Christmas is a stronger bond than you had with your ex. If someone borrows the one tuppaware box you have that’s large enough to fit a 3 layer cake and doesn’t give it back, they may recieve a notice in writing and an unannounced house visit to return it. You have more recipe books than you have non-fiction, and your growing collection of cake tins is causing an urgent need for a kitchen extension.
You can recite certain baking recipes off by heart, and you find it easy to bake a cake for any occasion. You’re fully prepared to convert any recipe into vegan, gluten free, nut free, or any of the above. The only issue is if someone doesn’t like baked goods, in which case, they might be getting a voucher for their birthday, because you’re out of ideas. You have about 12 different types of sugar, and just as much sugar free alternatives. Agave syrup is your second name, and if you’re baking for someone that’s coeliac, so is chick pea flour.
Baking bread for you is second nature, and your freezer is like a diary to you, with every batch of home-made pastry or pizza dough, carefully wrapped in clingfilm and named and dated in chronological order. You’re prepared for every occasion, and after watching a YouTube video, you even freeze cupcakes occasionally for emergencies. You know how to make a molten chocolate cake with simply a mug and a microwave, and thank god, because there’s nothing worse than being caught short when chocolate cravings hit!
You follow many chefs and domestic goddesses on social media, you watch cooking shows often, and you find programmes such as the Great British Bake-Off frustrating when people fail to make a choux pastry as this is something you never assumed anyone would find challenging. Watching Masterchef is also fairly trying, especially if someone can’t make a rissotto, fillet a fish or make a creme pat. You’re comfortable cooking a variety of cuisines, you’re not afraid of flavour, it’s just part of every day life, and every meal is an experiement. You’ve got about 10 different types of cheese in the fridge, including dairy-free, your herb collection is expanding rapidly, breaking free from the herb rack and making it’s way round the kitchen counter. You know how to cook the classics well, and you love visiting restaurants and travelling abroad to try new cuisines and new ingredients from different parts of the world.
You often wonder what would happen if you sold your cakes, or wrote a recipe blog, but you lack the knowledge and technical know-how to get things started, beyond cooking for your loved ones. Every creation ends up being a one off, and your cakes and home-cooked meals look magazine worthy, because you’re never out of ways to make them beautiful as well as delicious. You love foraging and eating locally where possible, and you care about where the ingredients have come from. When you bake and cook, it’s with love, and it’s both a joy, and a therapy, if you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed. Maybe one day you’d like to try a short course on making wedding cakes or fondant icing, but you just can’t justify spending your money on that as the moment. Either way, you’ll always love baking and cooking, you’ll always love sharing your food with others, and more importantly, you love baking your cake and eating it. Cook’s perks 🙂

You’re constantly going to random classes, workshop and gigs, just because your friends have invited you, and you love trying anything once! You’re a very creative person, and don’t have any problem in being a jack of all trades when it comes to creative output! Your home is full of random things that you made whilst you dedicated less 3 months on a project… homemade ceramic bowls where you keep your keys and spare change, jewellery that you made at a hen party once, a half finished landscape watercolour painting, that you started with a kit you got for Christmas, some random bongo drums that you bought after a shamanic healing weekend in the Outer Hebrides, and your most prized possession, a completed cross stitch bookmark that you made on a workshop you did at a literary festival.
You keep all your creative output with pride, and actually to you it’s more about the collection itself, a cabinet of curiosities of things that you find quite interesting. You actually love collecting, and if you’d thought about it early enough, maybe you would have done a degree in archiving or museum studies, because really, you just like stuff! You like the chaotic unsubscribed system of objects that don’t necessarily have much relation to each other, but you love them anyway. A bit like the love people have for their tools in a garden shed, or unkept drawer of ‘useful things’ in your bedside table. To you, objects connect you to people and experiences, and you never tire of finding new things to display or store.
As well as creative objects, you also join multiple dance classes, acting classes and choirs, and all of these persuits often last less than a few months, but you love them anyway! Your friends all do completely different things, and you love trying stuff that you’re invited to, as a way to connect with them and also as a way to explore new genres, new music and new ways of seeing things. You’re a dreamer sometimes, and drifting from one group, or one project to the next has never been a problem for you, it’s been a joy to feel that connected to so many different ways to create and express.
Occasionally you might start something and think: ‘wow, I wish I could follow through with this’ but you’re not really sure why you can’t focus on one thing for very long. Your job might involve working with people, because really you’re most comfortable meeting new people and travelling as much as possible, and your variety of creative outputs also reflect this. Sometimes you’ve thought about ways to monetize this love and fascination for the new… maybe creating a travel blog, or a review blog for the things that you try, or maybe simply just enjoying your life, and keep on creating. Whatever it is that is stopping you from sticking with the same creative medium, it’s certainly not holding you back, and your life is rich with variety and the friendships that you form.

It’s all about living well, connecting with your divine feminine and creating an enviroment of love, light, harmony and peace. Maybe you’re an artist, maybe you’re a holistic healer, a tarot or oracle reader, an intuitive or a yogi. Maybe you create your own magic blends of essential oils, or you create crystal grids on a fluffy rug or blanket, maybe you meditate, maybe you do daily chants, or free-form dancing or singing. You create your own reality, and you’re aware of that. You’re aware of the power of your environment, your mindset, your connection to earth in how you feel in yourself, and this is relfected in the kinds of creative activities you’re drawn to. You love making your own plant-based cosmetics, or yoni steam blends, or herbal teas, and you love the power of plants in healing you, the naturopathic way.
You might be part of a healing circle or divine feminine sisterhood group, and you might be more comfortable bare foot in a yurt than anywhere else. You value community and community arts, and you try and support fellow holistic healers and craftsmen/women in what they do. You try and buy organic, local, and small business where possible.
Creativity to you is just as much about creating a space of harmony as it is creating a product, and mindset and energy is everything. You love sacred geometry, the beauty in nature, vibrant colours, sacred sounds, light and comfortable materials, and have many books on living well with alternative healing and philosophies. Spirituality for you is acknowledging that we are all connected. Maybe you’re interested in speaking with your angels, guides or ascended masters, and maybe you create art and music to express some of this divine connection. You have a collection of sound bowls, tibetan chimes and gongs that you use daily in meditation when you can.
You’d love to turn this holistic lifestyle into a business, but you’re not sure where to start, and you don’t really know how to charge money to heal others, as you feel abit uneasy about the idea of doing that for a living. You’ve thought about maybe running your own retreats, or putting on your own workshops, but you’re not sure if anyone would be that interested, even though you’ve been to similar events run by others many times. Maybe you have started your healing business, but you’re not sure how to get more visibility, and you’re worried people won’t take you seriously as a healer and intuitive in order to grow. Either way, you’ll always love the holistic and bohemian lifestyle, and the people you meet along the way. You’re powerful, and you know it! You’re committed to creating harmony in your home, and in your life.

All singing, all dancing! Acting, singing and dancing are an integral part of your life in someway, whether that be being in a choir, amateur dramatics, social dancing groups, or maybe you’ve dabbled in professional acting, singing, dancing or performing! Whatever it is you do, you’re owning it! And you’re living your best life, surrounded by people that love what you love!
When you’re not singing, dancing or acting as part of your group or performance, you often spend your time pottering round the house, practicing singing verses of songs you’ve learned, or lines from a play that you want to perfect. Perhaps you find yourself doing tap dancing in the kitchen, or ballet by the photocopier at work when no-one’s looking. Perhaps when you look in the mirror before you brush your teeth, you find yourself pretending to get into character, your mind wandering, imagining what it would be like to me somebody else on stage, or having a ‘hair brush hits’ moment, where you blast out your favourite tunes, with a voice of an angel, of course!
Perhaps you’re working temporary jobs in between acting or singing or dancing performances, and if you’re a waitor or waitress, perhaps you spend your tips on train fayres to the next audition or performance! Perhaps you work 9-5, and acting and singing and dancing happens in evenings and weekends only, when you truly feel yourself come alive!
When you’re a performer, life becomes a dance, a stage, and even doing chores, you find yourself really thinking deeply about what you’re doing, and how you’re doing it, as your body awareness increases. You use yoga and pilates often to become more in tune with your body and mind, and more in harmony with movement and breath. Life becomes more mindful as you create with music and movement, and you can’t imagine a life without it.
You’ve often considered how you can use your creativity, your acting, singing and dancing in ways that can generate more income, and this may include mentoring, online courses and blogs, as well as writing music and plays, stage directing, and choreography. As a performer, you have far more skills then people may expect, and your experience is broad, even just working on an amateur level, or social dancing, you learn a huge amount about your craft very quickly, because you learn whilst doing. Perhaps you trained professionally but you never really got your ‘big break’ after graduating, or perhaps you haven’t really done acting, singing or dancing since school, but you returned to it later in life.
Either way, movement, music and performance is within you, and every time you practice, you feel your energy come into alignment. You know more opportunities are coming at the right time, and you’re open to new roles and opportunities. The high of performance, of dancing, of creating music, is second to none, and you feel abundant and powerful that you can co-create those memorable moments for audience and cast and crew, simply by expressing yourself. As you move through your creative journey, you find a healing element to this as well, as you work through any messages from people that told you weren’t good enough, and you show up for yourself instead of listening to others. You’ve become more confident in yourself as a result, and whatever happens, you’ll always love what you do.
